Subject: Colorado Space Business Roundup Newsletter - June Issue 2021

A Message from our Chair

Things are opening up for our communities and we are more than ready!  The excitement of being able to reconnect in a more personal environment is palatable.

Colorado Space Business Roundtable has been working hard to prepare for the next normal. If you haven’t had a chance to peruse our new website, take time to visit our digital environment.  The aerospace industry is strong as ever, experiencing 10% growth in the last year, with Colorado at the forefront of that growth. This is showcased by ULA’s successful launch of a new GPS satellite and other payloads for the U.S. Space Force.  This effort was fueled by Colorado partners such as Lockheed Martin. Sierra Nevada announced their new spinoff venture – Sierra Space to showcase their capabilities in space habitats, reusable transportation vehicles and other advancements.

Our membership continues to grow and diversify.  We welcome a new corporate member, Point Solutions Group and others into the CSBR membership. Each individual, start-up and company help expand and connect the vital network that is Colorado Aerospace.  CSBR continues to do outreach with the Montrose Economic Development Council and our Club 20 partnership.

I look forward to our near future of in-person gatherings and continued industry growth.   Not only is the Space Foundation hosting their Space Symposium in person this August, CSBR will be hosting our signature event in person also. Mark your calendars for our 2021 Round Up at the Museum of Nature and Science on December 1, 2021.

Keep connecting!

Board Member Spotlight

Genah Murphy Burditt
CSBR Board Member, Co-chair of the Marketing/Communications Committee

Genah Burditt has been a member of CSBR for several years and in 2020 she joined the board as Co-Chair of the Marketing/Communications Committee. Burditt is a lifetime STEM mentor, writer, science educator, and entrepreneur. In 2009 she brought those skills to bear when she partnered with her everything-Aerospace father, Gerry Murphy, in EyasSat-a spacecraft simulator kit for cradle to grave training in design, integration and test, and mission operations. EyasSats can be found all over the world in classrooms and space agencies. And, as it turns out, the Aerospace Ecosystem in Colorado is the perfect place for Burditt where she enjoys the opportunity to engage with the brightest minds and cutting-edge technology on a daily basis. While participating and observing this ecosystem Burditt noticed a nearly untapped resource, right here in Colorado, Small Aerospace.

In 2017 she partnered with fellow Aerospace Consultant, Amanda Haffey, to incorporate Blue Foot Engineering to advocate for and advance this resource by pairing uniquely trained and qualified, small organizations/independent contractors with New Space brazenness. It has been an exhilarating ride, and one that allows Burditt to do what she likes even more than Space-playing (yes, playing, down on the floor if necessary!) with her 3 children.

On a personal note, Genah said that “Hands Down Best Movie Ever” is The Princess Bride- loved watching the reunited cast do the script read-through last summer, and literally cried nearly the whole time!

And can never decide which is better? Ocean or snow?!

Global Partnership

Debra Wilcox is a Board Member of CSBR and a woman who has changed lives in Belize and Colorado via the global collaboration "Future Me" and "STEM for Girls".  Two women, Consulo Godfrey and Beatrice Gebn, ran with the idea of supporting the dreams of students through connections with industry and subject matter experts.

Debra learned about the programs in Belize through her participation on the STEM School Building Ships Board. The educators and students in Belize are passionate about learning and the girls in the program are global citizens and they want to learn about all technology.  You can learn more below:

How can CSBR Members help?

As with our Ambassadors program a few minutes of time from anyone who is interested will have tremendous impact for students who have brilliant minds and are eager to learn. One of the surprising blessings of the pandemic has been the encouragement of remote engagements.  These are important to collective knowledge and we all benefit from diverse cultural backgrounds and thinking.  This US / Belizean collaboration brings hope for girls around the world.  Any recognition or support would mean the world to them.  There are so many ways to support this global effort to empower students.  The needs are great and the potential is infinite.

The Colorado/Belize connection continues to thrive as we are connecting Colorado teachers with 500 Belizean teachers this summer.
